Monoclonal antibody drug cuts risk of infected patients dying by up to 85%

An antibody therapy made by a British drugs giant cuts the risk of Covid patients dying or falling critically ill by up to 85 per cent, trial results have found. The phase three clinical trial looked at 583 Covid patients with moderate illness and compared the antibody drug with a placebo. The drug contains antibodies — proteins found in people who have survived Covid — that have been genetically modified in a lab. The antibody drug appears only effective if given at the earliest stage of illness. Results showed its antibody treatment reduced hospitalisations and deaths in high-risk patients recently diagnosed with Covid by 87 per cent.
