The Monkey Bay fire, pictured about 5.30am on Thursday, burnt out about 4 hectares of bush. A fire on steep terrain in Marlborough is still smouldering, days after the blaze was in full force. There were suspected hotspots across the four hectares of burnt bush following the Monkey Bay fire, which evacuated the nearby Whites Bay camp ground in the early hours of Thursday morning. A Marlborough Roads spokeswoman said Port Underwood Rd, between Rarangi and Oyster Bay, reopened on Friday evening. Department of Conservation (DOC) walking track, Monkey Bay above Rarangi, had caution tape across its access point and remained closed.
