The origins of monitorships in the United KingdomPrior to the advent of DPAs, monitors had occasionally been appointed in connection with negotiated settlements of criminal investigations between corporates and prosecuting agencies in the United Kingdom. This chapter sets out the statutory and other contexts in which corporate monitorships (or aspects of monitorship arrangements) might be implemented in the United Kingdom, as well as their nature and scope.
