“A deeply unfair shambles.” That is how the system that distributes asylum seekers throughout Britain has been described after a Guardian analysis found that more than five times as many asylum seekers live in the poorest parts of the country as in the richest. Home Office data revealed more than half of all asylum seekers (57%) live in the poorest third of the country, while the richest third of the country houses just 10%. “You’ve got the asylum hostels concentrated in the lowest income areas and also in a very small number of areas.
