Now, starters who do not have a deep enough arsenal to survive in that role can thrive in the bullpen. I’ve talked to multiple scouts who think Taylor needs to play every day without worrying about a leash. But right now, I think Stevenson or Bautista gets the chance after Taylor, should the Nationals stick to internal options. In other words, I have not heard anything explicit, but would say the Nationals probably are looking at a lot of options right now — Royals players included. The 37-year-old Werth is usually a slow starter, but is off to a good start this season — he’s slashing .282/.378/.437.
