PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Mohamed Elias Abu Bakar is the new secretary of the Election Commission, effective today. The EC said in a statement that he succeeds Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh who went on mandatory retirement on May 10. "The EC hopes that Mohamed Elias’ wide experience in the Civil Service would enable him to lead the EC secretariat in planning, coordinating and implementing the EC policies efficiently and effectively,” it said. Mohamed Elias had also served as the under-secretary of the Development, Finance and Human Resource Division at the Ministry of Human Resources from April 28, 2014, to Feb 14, 2017. The EC recorded its appreciation to Abdul Ghani for his contribution and service to the EC as its secretary from Aug 19, 2013, to May 9, 2018.
