Modi taps US Congress in visa battle

New Delhi, Feb. 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today sought US Congress help in battling the attempts to restrict foreign worker visas that have gained steam under the Donald Trump administration and threaten Indian companies and workers the most. Trump has promised to clamp down on foreign worker visas as part of his promise to bring back jobs to Americans. Then, a draft order detailing planned action against foreign worker visas leaked from the White House. That draft order, which Trump has not yet signed, calls for a review of the H1B and L1 visa systems and an enhanced scrutiny of foreign workers and students in the US. The US Congress too is contemplating three bills moved by different legislators that propose multiple ways of curbing the misuse of H1B and L1 visas.
