One in 150 people are living in "modern slavery" in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands, according to a new report by a human rights charity. The Walk Free report identifies cases of forced labour, commercial sexual exploitation of children, and forced marriage in the Pacific. Modern slavery was likely to increase as climate change exacerbated poverty and migration, Gordon said. New Zealand did not do enough to stop modern slavery through its supply chain, the report stated. The Australian government passed a Modern Slavery Act last year.
