Modern day management mantra: Disrupt yourself first before someone disrupts the industry

There are too many examples of disrupters getting disrupted because they got complacent: Xerox, Kodak, Nokia, Blackberry….Less arrogant companies have thrived by disrupting themselves. IBM has turned itself into a software and services company after it dropped its traditional hardware business. Digitisation , Internet of Things (IoT), robotics , machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality are transforming production, distribution, consumption and innovation. Then there is also the question of consumption growth in absence of income growth, or income itself. Some economists are suggesting universal basic income (UBI) to ensure that unemployed or under-employed people can buy the produced things. The key management mantra in this age of disruption is to disrupt oneself before somebody else disrupts the industry.
