Mobile Internet Partially Restored in EthiopiaDecember 2, 2016 - All mobile Internet services were restored on Friday evening December 2 after being shut down for the last two months, according to Capital. Social media and messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Viber and Facebook, and Instagram are still blocked. In Addis Ababa, this is the longest sustained mobile Internet service shutdown that has taken place. The unrest that started more than a year ago precipitated internet interruptions in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian government believes social media was used as instrument of communication by opposition in diaspora, instigating and fanning internal dissent.
