MoMA Makes Space for More Art

Henri Matisse’s cutout work “The Swimming Pool” has spent years at New York’s Museum of Modern Art inside a flat file cabinet, the drawer’s exterior marked by little more than a yellow sticky note with “Matisse” scribbled in pencil. The 1952 depiction of blue bathers and hundreds of other artworks will make a splash when MoMA debuts its long-awaited $450 million renovation and expansion later this year. To get to that point, the museum plans to close to the general public in mid-June, reopening on Oct. 21.
