Mistakes, bungles, blunders - how many can we take?

OPINION: I sometimes think life is a series of bungles punctuated by short bursts of things going well. What I think the earthquakes taught people in Canterbury was to expect and, to some extent, tolerate mistakes and slip-ups in the aftermath. Perhaps it’s because of living through and reporting on the response to the Canterbury earthquakes. A nearly perfect example of a struggling, mismanaged bureaucracy was the Earthquake Commission (EQC) after the Canterbury earthquakes in 2010/2011. A big crisis will generally be met with a flawed response and lots of mistakes.
