According to GeoNet, the quake was a magnitude 3.4, described as light shaking, and was centred about 5 kilometres east of Christchurch at a depth of 9km off Ruru Rd near Memorial Park Cemetery in Bromley at 11.49am. More than 3500 people reported via GeoNet’s website that they felt the shaking, the majority recording it as being “light” to “weak”. People as far as Auckland reportedly felt the tremor.
