Ministry, Nasscom to discuss visa curbs

more-inWith the $110-billion Indian IT/ITeS industry set to be hit by the proposed U.S. visa curbs and the Opposition political parties asking the Centre to urgently address the issue, Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday said she would soon hold talks with the External Affairs Ministry and industry body Nasscom to prepare India’s response. Pointing out that her Ministry is “closely monitoring” the Trump administration’s policy announcements on visas, the Minister, however, told reporters: “There are several nuances to it (the proposed U.S. visa curbs). It is a call which is possibly going to happen through an executive order (of the U.S. President Donald Trump). I will also be talking with the external affairs ministry to understand how we can take a call on this issue.” Many opposition parties have raised concerns over the issue. “The IT industry has been the jewel in the crown of our industry,” Trinamool Congress MP, Derek O’ Brien told the Rajya Sabha.
