The station has been told to move from London John Alex Maguire/Rex FeaturesThe government is threatening to change the law to force Channel 4 to leave London if the broadcaster fails to comply with demands to go voluntarily. Ministers have been taken aback by the reluctance of the channel’s bosses to move the network out of the capital. Channel 4 argues that being outside London would be “highly damaging”, with its former chief executive David Abraham even claiming it would “destroy” the channel. Karen Bradley, the culture secretary, will hold talks before Christmas with Alex Mahon, the new chief executive, in the hope of getting a more positive response. One Whitehall source suggested that the new Channel 4 management had until the new year to “get on board”.
