Ministers to hold Canada-India discussions in Yellowknife

Yellowknife will occupy an unlikely political spotlight this week as Canadian public safety ministers meet in the city to discuss allegations of crime linked to India’s government. Federal public safety minister Dominic LeBlanc will chair meetings in Yellowknife with provincial and territorial counterparts later this week, at which the India situation is expected to be a priority. The host city for such meetings rotates, and the NWT happened to be in line to co-chair the next meetings of Canada’s various public safety and justice ministers. “I’m travelling to Yellowknife on Wednesday morning to meet all of the provincial and territorial justice and public safety ministers with my colleague [the federal justice minister] Arif Virani. Wheeler, who was once briefly a Yellowknife resident and has family in the city, spoke with reporters in India on Monday.
