Minister wants to slash wages of civil servants who have not returned to the office

A Cabinet minister suggested that civil servants who refuse to return to the office should be paid less than those back at their desks. The Department of Health and Social Care has reportedly abandoned plans for its civil servants to be back at their desks between four and eight days a month from September. Tory grandee Sir Iain Duncan Smith said last night: 'Civil servants need to get off their backsides and into the office and they need to do it pretty quickly.' 'The vast majority want hybrid working, with a balance between time in the office and time working from home.' The Public and Commercial Services Union, which represents middle and lower-ranking civil servants, warned that any mass return to offices must not happen 'until it is demonstrably safe'.
