Canadians deserve to know more about how the government is spending their dollars on a massive shipbuilding program, Procurement Minister Judy Foote said Thursday. A major portion of the shipbuilding strategy involves the construction of what is being called the Canadian Surface Combatant. “We are determined to be straightforward with Canadians,” Foote told the audience. During her address to industry officials, she said her department would be doubling the number of employees working on the shipbuilding strategy. Foote told industry representatives Thursday at the CANSEC military equipment trade show in Ottawa that the federal government has done a poor job in telling the public about the $30-billion scheme.
