Union minister of state for external affairs V. Muraleedharan has said “genuine” Indians should not be persecuted, adding that it should be known who is a citizen and who is not. Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, the minister recalled his association with the Northeast dating back to the anti-foreigners movement in Assam led by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU). Asked to comment on the NRC update in Assam, the Union minister said: “The process is on and will follow the due course of law. “The Union home minister has said that every Indian citizen should be identified, every foreigner should be identified and then we need to pursue the due process of law,” he added. On the Act East policy, he said India had been developing bilateral relationships with all countries on trade and other aspects.
