Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has said some 20,988 foreign nationals, hailing from around 115 countries with the Chinese leading the list, are currently employed in Bangladesh with work permits. He was responding to a question posed by Noakhali-3 lawmaker Md Mamunur Rashid Kiron during a parliamentary session on Tuesday. The minister said foreigners in Bangladesh are engaged in development projects, industrial establishments, NGOs, INGOs and various other organizations. Among them, there are 6,075 Chinese nationals, 5,876 Indians, 2,468 Russians, 1,246 Sri Lankans, 924 South Koreans, 557 Japanese, 416 Pakistanis, 460 Filipinos, 399 Thais, 378 Belarusians, 269 Kazakhs, 168 Americans, 139 Koreans, 123 Malaysians and 108 Indonesians. They hold work permits and visas to work in Bangladesh.
