The lung-cancer screening recommendation received a “B” rating. Lung cancer killed more than 135,000 people in the United States last year, according to the National Cancer Institute. Overall, the five-year survival rate for lung cancer is about 20 percent, but it is higher when the disease is caught at the earliest stages. African Americans, the group said, have a higher risk of lung cancer than White men even with lower levels of smoking exposure.
