Our whole night sky is made up of evidence of that, every star you can see with your eye is in our galaxy. We can see more than just the Milky Way with telescopes, however, this image contains what's visible over Hawaii. The images have been recorded since 2010 and amount to around 1.6 million gigabytes of data in total. The telescope is able to capture the entire visible sky from its vantage point and it takes images in a variety of colours. The multiple exposures are also useful as they allow astronomers to detect near earth objects moving - like asteroids.
