A MEMBER of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) and his son were shot dead by unknown men, believed to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA), in Quezon on Wednesday night, the military said on Thursday. Maj. Gen. Rhoderick Parayno, commander of the Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry Division, said that the fatalities were identified as Manolito Alcantara, 48, and Randy Alcantara, 29. Parayno added that the older Alcantara was unarmed when the shooting took place at Sitio Hacienda, Barangay Inabuan, San Francisco. The older Alcantara died on the spot while his son was rushed to the San Francisco Municipal Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Parayno said the older Alcantara was assigned to the Patrol Base Nanadiego, Mulanay and insisted that NPA members were the main suspects in the shooting.
