Kenya Police in Haiti had a momentary scare on Wednesday after an armoured truck they were travelling in broke in the middle of Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince. The incident which happened in the middle of a gang-infested region occurred during Kenya’s first engagement with gangs in the Caribbean nation. Before Wednesday, Kenyan police who had been deployed to Haiti had been confined to guarding critical infrastructure and patrolling the streets without making contact with the gangs. Immediately the military truck broke down, and mechanics within the police ranks quickly swung into action and started repairing the truck. This was the first exchange of live fire since Kenya deployed officers to Haiti last month and came a day after Kenya deployed a second contingent to the Caribbean nation.
