Afghan security forces battled for hours against a group of Islamic State attackers who stormed a government building in the eastern city of Jalalabad on Sunday after a coordinated assault that killed at least 15 people and wounded 42, local officials said. There were multiple blasts as they fought off security forces in a gun battle that lasted much of the day. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, the militant group’s Amaq news agency said without providing any evidence. That attack, also carried out by Islamic State, followed much the same pattern as Sunday’s incident. Public health officials said that at least 15 people, including a child, had been killed and 42 wounded.
