Rather than look at things through the lens of Silicon Valley, the Big Apple has developed its own brand of startups. Of course, this has long been called Silicon Alley. Indeed, Silicon Alley is much broader than the area around the Flat Iron district where it grew up the late 1990s Internet boom. Now that Silicon Valley has gone universal, it's time to hear what the toughest town in urban U.S. has to offer. I think it may not be long before Silicon Alley catches up to the Valley in venture capital investments, and begins to close the funding gap.
