Mild quakes hit Quirino, Cagayan provinces


RAMON, Isabela –– Mild earthquakes rocked Quirino province on Wednesday night and Cagayan province on Thursday morning as residents prepared for Typhoon “Ramon.”Calayan town in Cagayan was shaken by a 3.6-magnitude tectonic quake at 10:51 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. ADVERTISEMENTAt 10:28 p.m. on Wednesday, a 4.9-magnitude quake struck Nagtipunan in Quirino. No aftershocks were reported and the twin tremors did not leave any damage. Even Ramon town, which hosts the Magat Dam in Isabela, felt the quake, said Ramon resident Ryne Naayao Lapnawan. Magat dam officials immediately examined the facility and confirmed that the dam was unharmed, said Carlo Ablan, Magat flood forecasting division chief of the National Irrigation Administration.
