Mild, dry weekend forecast for CanterburyALDEN WILLIAMS/FAIRFAX NZ Morning sun burns through fog on Inland Rd, between Waiau and Kaikoura. Canterbury is in store for a dry weekend after a week of heavy rain, gales and even snow. The sun returned to the city on Friday, and MetService forecast more fine weather over the weekend. Similar conditions were expected elsewhere on the South Island's east coast over the weekend, but the West Coast could except a few showers at times. State Highway 1 remained closed south of Kaikoura, between Peketa and Goose Bay, due to earthquake and storm damage.
