Democrats charged aggressively into an impeachment investigation of President Donald Trump on Friday, ordering Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to turn over Ukraine-related documents and scheduling testimony for witnesses to alleged abuse of power by the U.S. leader. It accused Mr. Trump of pressuring Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky in a July 25 phone call to supply dirt on former Vice-President Joe Biden, the favorite to represent Democrats against Mr. Trump in the 2020 presidential election. The whistleblower complaint said Mr. Volker met senior Ukrainian officials on how to “navigate” Mr. Trump’s demands of Mr. Zelensky. These people are sick,” Mr. Trump says in the video obtained by Bloomberg. Meanwhile, more concerning allegations against Mr. Trump came to light late on Friday, with The Washington Post reporting Mr. Trump told Russia’s Foreign Minister and Ambassador to the U.S. he was unconcerned about Moscow’s interference in the 2016 U.S. elections because Washington did the same in other countries.
