Most electrical work requires an electrical permit, which is different from a building permit. An inspector or an Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) must inspect all electrical work that requires an electrical permit. Hire a licensed electrical contractor for any electrical work in your home, even for things like changing an outlet or installing a light fixture. Just because you have a building permit doesn’t mean you have an electrical permit. If you hired someone to do electrical work on your home, such as an electrical contractor, they are required to take out the electrical permit, not you.
