Migration gains hit two-year low but look set to stay strong into 2020JOHN ANTHONY/STUFF The number of people being added to New Zealand's population from migration may have peaked, but is still averaging more than 5000 a month. Net migration has dropped to the lowest level in two years, despite a jump in the gains from people arriving to live here March. The lowest since March 2016, the annual net migration gain was down around 1000 from the year ended February 28. In March alone, migration gains jumped around 10 per cent, on a seasonally adjusted basis, to 5480. Both the Reserve Bank and Treasury have consistently predicted swift declines in the gains from migration for several years.
