In Syria, which has been torn apart by a hideous civil war, the average life expectancy for men dropped from 75 to 69 between 2010 and 2013. "As a result, millions of people are facing dire water shortages and poor sanitation that will lead to disease outbreaks." According to the institute's analysis, overall life expectancy in 22 nations in the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia increased from 65 years in 1990 to 71 years in 2013.
