Mida says it is ready to implement new outcome-based incentive framework

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 30): The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) said it stands ready to operationalise the New Incentive Framework (NIF) from March 1, marking a major shift in Malaysia’s investment policy towards an outcome-based, value-driven approach. The framework will first apply to the manufacturing sector, followed by the services sector in the second quarter of 2026. Mida chairman Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the framework is premised on ensuring clear returns on government incentives. In terms of implementation, Mida will continue to accept manufacturing-sector incentive applications under the Promotion of Investments Act 1986 until Feb 28. All new manufacturing applications submitted from March 1 onwards will be evaluated under the NIF.
