While the state notification regarding mid-day meal cost hike last year was issued a month late (from August 1) last year, it had peeved the teachers and mid-day meal workers. District mid-day meal manager Rattan Lal said, “The 7 per cent hike is a welcome change and will help increase the quality of the mid-day meal further. But for ABMs and mid-day meal workers, not much changes have taken place. While as many as 1,34,000 students are being served the mid-day meal in Jalandhar, this year the number of students is 1,27,000. As many as 1,27,000 students in the district from classes I to VIII are presently being served the mid-day meal in government schools.
