Microsoft is blaming human error after the famous photo of a lone man standing in front of a tank at Beijing’s Tiananmen Square in 1989 did not appear during image searches conducted on its Bing search engine Friday. Instead of the famous three-decade-old image of an unidentified man holding two bags and standing in front of a line of tanks in the hours following the Tiananmen Square massacre, random photos of tanks were mostly returned. “This is due to an accidental human error and we are actively working to resolve this,” said a statement attributed to “a Microsoft spokesperson” responding to a request from the Toronto Star. Microsoft didn’t say if it had faced pressure from the Chinese government in a second response to the Star through its public relations agency. “The company has nothing further to share.”Loading...
