Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, the two Canadian men taken into custody almost three years ago by China's communist regime, are on home soil after the legal dispute involving Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou was partly resolved by U.S. prosecutors. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stands with Minister of Foreign Affairs Marc Garneau in Ottawa on Friday to announce that Canadians Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig had been released from detention in China. Michael Spavor leaves the Calgary airport after returning home to Canada after more than 1,000 days in a Chinese prison. Conservative Sen. Leo Housakos says Canada needs to take a hard line on China now that Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor have been released.
