Credit the injured Robinson Cano with an assist on Michael Conforto’s first career grand slam. “He’s going to try to get you to hit into a double play,” Cano told Conforto. “When I got back to the bench, I told Robinson right in front of Chili that he is going to be my hitting coach now,” Conforto said, referring to the Mets’ hitting coach, Chili Davis. “I wasn’t thinking about a slam, but it feels good to do the job in that situation.”Conforto struck out twice, but his season-high five R.B.I. helped the Mets end a six-game road skid.
