In his namesake philanthropy’s annual report, Michael Bloomberg assessed the state of Washington, D.C., and offered a vision for the coming year. To that end, Bloomberg—who Forbes estimates is worth $50.3 billion—pledged an additional $42 million to U.S. cities, building upon a 2017 Bloomberg Philanthropies initiative that had an initial budget of $200 million. Its agenda includes curbing tobacco use, fighting climate change and promoting gun control. Following the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, this year, Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety nonprofit joined with Moms Demand Action to create a student-led gun control campaign. To date, Michael Bloomberg has given more than $6 billion to charitable causes.
