A federal judge in California ordered celebrity attorney Michael Avenatti jailed until his trial in that state, after prosecutors accused him of committing a ream of financial crimes while free on bond. Mr. Avenatti’s arrest and detention had immediate effects in New York, where he was supposed to go on trial next week on charges that he attempted to extort Nike Inc. A federal judge in Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon said jury selection in that case wouldn’t begin next week.
