Naason Joaquin Garcia, who heads the organization that claims one million followers worldwide, and three co-defendants allegedly committed 26 felonies in southern California between 2015 and 2018. "Crimes like those alleged in this complaint have no place in our society. Garcia also allegedly boasted about "a king having mistresses and stated that an apostle of god can never be judged for his actions." Although La Luz del Mundo is headquartered in Mexico, its influence has spread to California and other regions in recent years. In a statement the church denied the charges, saying it was confident Garcia would be proven innocent.
