Metro route to airport: Govt decision in 10 days

BENGALURU: The decision on the Metro route to the Kempegowda International Airport, which is about 35 km away from city , is likely to be taken in the next five to ten days, multiple sources in the government, including the minister for Bengaluru city development, have confirmed. It is not clear whether this project will be included in the ongoing Namma Metro Phase II project -which is expected to be ready in 2020 -or in Phase III. KJ George , minister for Bengaluru development and town planning, confirmed that the state government would finalise the metro route to airport shortly.“Namma Metro au thorities have already compiled the list of suggestions from the public. The government will take a final call on the alignment soon,“ he said.RITES, a Union government undertaking, has suggested nine routes to the airport from the city . “Taking an expensive Metro far away from the city does not solve the overall problem. When Mumbai can have another airport within a distance of 40 km, why not Bengaluru?
