METRO Manila residents were advised to stay indoors as the weather bureau warned that the heat index may soar to 39 degrees to 41 degrees Celsius until the weekend. “We are advising the public especially in Metro Manila to exercise extreme caution and better stay indoors and stay hydrated,” forecaster Grace Castañeda said. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) defines heat index as the apparent heat that the human body perceives. Those who have to go outside between 12 noon and 3 p.m. were advised to frequently drink water to stay hydrated. Castañeda said exposure to heat may trigger cramps and exhaustion that may lead to heat stroke.
