Authorities say a Metro Transit Police officer fatally shot a man who fired at officers near a Metro station in northeast Washington. D.C. police said in a statement Tuesday that Metro Transit Police officers investigating a large crowd setting off fireworks near the Deanwood Metro station late Monday spotted a man holding a weapon. They identified themselves as officers and police say the man fired multiple rounds at them. One officer returned fire, striking the man, who later died at a hospital. Metro spokeswoman Sherri Ly says the officer who returned fire, a 12-year veteran, is on routine administrative leave.
