Meth dominates wastewater drug testing in Timaru


Eighty-four percent of the illicit drugs found in wastewater drug testing in Timaru was methamphetamine, a quarterly report by police has revealed. Methamphetamine is clearly the illicit drug of choice in Timaru according the most recent wastewater drug testing survey carried out by police. The findings in the January-March 2021 wastewater drug testing report released recently has revealed a 29 per cent increase in meth found in Timaru wastewater compared to the same period in 2020. The survey found 84 per cent of the illicit drugs found in Timaru’s wastewater was meth for the first quarter, with the remaining 16 per cent being MDMA. JOHN BISSET/STUFF/Stuff Detective Senior Sergeant, Richard Quested, assured the Timaru community that drug enforcement activities are part of everyday police work.
