Meth is the most prevalent drug in Taranaki. And a 2018 New Zealand Drug Trends Survey (NZDTS) study done by Massey University showed methamphetamine was more available throughout New Zealand than cannabis. The Ministry of Health funds six residential rehabilitation beds in the Salvation Army Taranaki Bridge Programme aimed at people with methamphetamine addiction. Supplied Salvation Army Lt Colonel Lynette Hutson says people think the meth problem isn't that bad, but it is. Midlands includes the Taranaki DHB however the DHB says it does not record any data specific to methamphetamine use.
