Meta, Pinterest Apologise For The Self-Harm Content 14-Year-Old User Saved For 6 Months Before Dying By Suicide


> TechTW: self-harm, suicideElizabeth Lagone, a senior executive at Instagram’s parent Meta has issued apologies after admitting that 14 year old teen Molly Russell, was shown content on the platform that violated its policies. In November 2017, Molly, a Harrow, north-west London resident, died by suicide after viewing copious amount of content online pertaining to self injury, depression, anxiety and suicide on Instagram and Pinetrest. Russell had saved 16,300 images on her Instagram account in the last six months of her life. Last week a senior Pinterest executive also apologized for the content shown to Molly in the platform. However big techs have always downplayed the effect of social media apps amongst the vulnerable teen userbase.
