Met Police spee- limit changes: ‘Stealth drop’ explained

What is the Met Police’s ‘stealth drop’ to the speed limit? Rules set by the police previously stated that drivers could only face action if they broke the limit by 10 per cent, plus 3mph. However, the Met’s recent “stealth drop” now sees those who break the speed limit by 10 per cent plus 2mph faced with a fixed-penalty notice or sent on a speed-awareness course. The Met reduced its speed tolerances from a formula of 10 per cent plus three mph (25mph in a 20 zone) to 10 per cent plus two mph on May 14, 2019. “It is not worth chancing your licence or indeed a potential road collision by relying on unwritten levels of tolerance.”
