KUALA LUMPUR: The Meteorological Department issued early warnings of heavy and continuous rain in the northern states on Nov 1, the parliament heard today. Science, Technology and Innovation Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohammad Diah said the department issued a Yellow Alert on Nov 1, via a television broadcast. "We studied the surroundings that pointed to heavy rain and issued the Yellow Alert. Abu Bakar said a Yellow Alert was an indicator of heavy rain to come in one or two days. As for the Orange Alert, he said it was a forecast that rainfall would continue at the maximum level and remain persistent.
