Met Éireann issues snow and ice warning for five counties

A snow and ice warning has been put in place for Wicklow, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo from 10pm on Tuesday to 11am on Wednesday. Met Éireann said the counties covered by the status yellow warning could expect to see wintry showers, icy conditions and snow accumulations. Counties unaffected by the warning can expect cold and blustery conditions over the days ahead with the risk of showers of hail. In its weather report for March, Met Éireann said dry and settled weather seen at the end of February broke at the beginning of the month and led to wet and windy conditions. Rainfall in March was above normal with the number of rain days ranging from 17 at Roche’s Point in Cork to 26 days at Finner in Co Donegal.
