Curt Dizon and Joaco Cañas shone in a fiery start as FC Meralco Manila trounced Kaya FC-Makati, 3-1, for a third place finish in the Philippines Football League (PFL) on Friday night at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium. Dizon struck a brace while Cañas netted the other goal all in just 24 minutes into the game to end the inaugural season. They (Kaya) were determined but my players were cautious in the second half to avoid what transpired in the semifinals,” said Meralco Manila head coach Aris Caslib. Meralco has an opportunity to enter the continental club competition should the PFL champion qualify for the top-tier AFC Champions League or another qualified club from Southeast Asia withdraw from the tournament. The Lions tried recover in the last 30 minutes but the Sparks’ steely resolve led them to victory.
